Facade/entrance in Kikunoya

We had a twin room with no view, the room was spacious and nicely decorated. They provided free pickup and drop off at the ferry, when you get to the island ask the information desk personnel to call the hotel for you, have the phone number ready. We had the dinner at the hotel, they asked in advance of any allergies or preferences. We do not eat raw fish and they provided substitutes for us. There is an onsen but we didn’t have time to use it as we went to see the Tori gate lit up at night instead. We enjoyed our stay and would stay again.

Breakfast, our traditional room, onsen and outdoor footspa was fabulous. We stayed at Kikunoya for one evening. We checked in early evening and had our lovely dinner and headed out to explore Miyajima and it was magical. The location is a little away (15min) walk from the ferry. I recommend travelling light as there are some areas with cobblestone roads. However, some rooms in the facility have a beautiful view of Itsukushima Jinja shrine. The onesen was lovely - had an indoor and outdoor which was peaceful. I highly recommend Kikunoya on Miyajima if you're able to!

Free shuttle from the ferry terminal (just have to let the info centre staff know to call the hotel) and free luggage sending service to the ferry terminal. They also helped book the night cruise and drove us there and back as well. Loved the experience of a tatami mat room, Japanese breakfast, onsen and foot bath.

Staff were absolutely gorgeous. While some of them don’t speak much English, they have a translator (device) at reception that works a treat for lots of languages. We managed no worries. Thoroughly enjoyed the onsen to myself, which was great because it was the traditional nudy rudy- ie. no bathers or any clothes allowed. No problem with tattoos. We got the dinner and brekky included which was excellent, however they don’t cater for any allergies or vegetarians. They recommend not eating their if you have these preferences - this is fine as we knew in advance. The location was excellent if you’re happy to walk uphill with luggage. We were happy to do this but not everyone is. They do offer a shuttle service. If you arrive before check in however, you aren’t able to utilise the shuttle until check in time. We loved being at the base of the ropeway starting point and away from the throng of the main area. Room was small but we spent very little time in there so we didn’t mind. We had a view of the garden at back of property which was nice enough - it did include some view of buildings at the side as well.

The room with a view of the water and Tori gate was beautiful, the AC worked perfectly during this incredibly hot week, and the location was excellent. The highlights were the wonderfully friendly staff, and the dinner and breakfast. Incredibly memorable and wonderful. I am so incredibly grateful that they took such care with my food intolerance and far exceeded my expectations. The meals were comfortable, beautifully presented, and delicious. Breakfast was relaxed and perfect too. The front desk and dining room staff were all kind and incredibly helpful.

This really is the quintessential Japanese Ryokan experience. You get a yukata when you arrive and you're free to walk around the hotel or even outside with it. I highly recommend bathing in the hot springs; I hiked to the top of Mount Misen in the day, and relaxing the sore muscles in the hot spring in the evening really was divine! Dinner was amazing; absolutely delicious and you could tell how much passion they put into creating it.

We had a wonderful 2 night stay here. The staff were so friendly and hospitable. The onsen was beautiful and it was nice to have a brief guide about some of this before we went down. Location was superb, close to everything and the food was beautiful, both breakfast and dinner were out of this world.

Amazing hotel and experience! I would heavily recommend staying here! The hotel was beautiful and well maintained. It was a very short walk away from Itsukushima Jinja (less than 10 minutes) and to the big Torii Gate in the sea. The complimentary shuttle from and to the Ferry Station was greatly appreciated as well. The room was so beautiful, and there was care and attention to every detail of the room. The bed was one of my best sleeps in Japan. We loved the onsen and the outdoor footbath was fabulous. The staff were all so kind and helpful too! We booked for both dinner and breakfast at the hotel. Dinner had several courses all with a variety of foods. Some of the items we ate were oyster hotpot, sashimi, clam miso soup, squid, omelette, grilled fish, fried fish and many other items. Everything was truly delicious! My favourite was the shashimi. The presentation and care from the staff made it a wonderful experience. I also liked that the dinner was a showcase of traditional japanese recipes that I might not order at a restaurant or even know. My mother who is not the biggest fan of fish was happy to take part in the dinner as it gave her the chance to experience the various forms of the cuisine. I have a few fruit allergies and the staff was very considerate of this which I really appreciated. Breakfast was a traditional Japanese style of breakfast. I enjoyed it, and there was both bread and yoghurt available if you want something more Western. Also we loved the gift shop in the hotel! There were many beautiful items in the shop that were quite reasonable and unique. Our favourite buy was the Hiroshima Lemon Hand Cream. I'd go back for just that hand cream honestly.

The staff were very friendly and helpful. We were picked up and shown around by Hiro. He also was in the restaurant during our dinner and breakfast meals. Always very helpful and accommodating. The other staff also were very friendly throughout our stay. The dinner was great - we could wear yukata down (lots to choose fm at the lobby) the meals were in the restaurant and not in your room but we didn’t mind as we could interact with the other staff and see the other guests. It added to tut ryokan experience. The view of the tori gate was amazing from our room (we changed rooms the second night) we would recommend this hotel to our friends.

Our stay at this modern hotel on Miyajima Island was fantastic from start to finish. The room was spacious, spotless, and very comfortable — a perfect place to relax after a day of exploring. Although the hotel is about a kilometer from the ferry terminal, they offer a free and very convenient transfer service, which made everything super easy. The location is excellent, just a short walk to the famous Itsukushima Shrine, the iconic torii gate, and also close to the ropeway up Mount Misen. We chose a plan with dinner and breakfast included, and the dining experience was truly exceptional — dinner was a beautifully presented multi-course fine dining experience, and breakfast was a traditional Japanese-style meal that we really enjoyed. The staff were very friendly and helpful, and check-in, check-out, and arranging the transfer were all effortless. The small public bath was a great way to relax, especially the outdoor section, which was tastefully decorated with plants and felt amazing on a chilly night after a day of hiking. Highly recommended for a peaceful and luxurious stay on Miyajima!
